I was blindly fumbling my way round the blogosphere (as you do when you’re a newbie) a couple of days ago when I came across this post by the fabulous Jo Beaufoix. It got me thinking about the music that used to make me tick, back in my dark and distant youth…..
Cut to:
November 1985. I am 10 years old. The charts are awash with Wham! and Duran Duran and Madonna has just blipped on my radar with ‘Into the Groove’. All the girls at school wear lace fingerless gloves and lace Alice bands. Me and my best friend Katie spend our lunch breaks making up dance routines in the school hall. We sing the lyrics to ‘Like a Virgin’ unaware of their actual meaning.
On Saturday morning I watch ‘Saturday Superstore’ presented by Mike Reed and Sarah Greene. This particular morning they have a new band performing called ‘a-ha‘. They sing their new single ‘Take on me’ and that’s it. BAM! I’m in love. Morten Harket has just rocked my world! Out go the lacy gloves and in come the leather laces wrapped around my wrist. I am in love for the very first time.

I remember that video – sitting in awe whilst I watched. I was 7.
I love the video. When you think that all that animation was hand drawn, not the CGI you see these days (although that takes talent too).
Amazing.
I ? Morten Harket
Oh the sweet sweet 80's. How I yearn to be back then…as long as I didn't have to live with my mum like I was when the first 80's went around
God, I remember that video – not primping and preening like they do now. It was an actual story – well sort of.
I think every girl growing up in the eighties love Morton. I was one of them.
RMxx
