Mash for brains

by Ellie on August 18, 2009

I am sleepless, but not in Seattle. Somewhere in Yorkshire actually, as it happens.

I am fast losing the ability to string a coherent (or even vaguely interesting) sentence together, and maintaining a train of thought involves many unscheduled stops with the final destination often forgotten.

I have the attention span of a goldfish, and it seems a bowl of mashed potato has taken up residence between my ears. My brain must have fancied a short break but instead seems to have opted for a sabbatical.

If only I could blame my two little sleep thieves for my lack of beauty (have you seen the dark circles under my eyes) sleep. But I cannot! They are both lazy bones in training. Champion sleepers. My sleepless state is involuntarily self inflicted…..ermmm, thanks me.

I’ll wander off now, in my slightly dizzy, slurry worded state (no I am not drunk, cheeky) and re fuel with a Diet Coke and a Cadbury Fudge to further perpetuate my vicious circle of insomnia.

What was I saying……?

You poor thing :-(

My best friend has exactly the same problem. Two angels who will sleep for England (and have done since birth – I'm not bitter at all…) and yet she spends all night every night awake with insomnia.

I, on the other hand, would quite happily sleep whenever and wherever I possibly could, but have a little monster who has never slept properly since day one and hasn't given me more than 2-3 uninterupted hours of sleep since he arrived.

Hmmm… somewhere in the cosmos I hear laughter…

((hugs)) to you from a fellow potato (porridge) brain! x

Hello,
I've just found your blog and like your style of writing.
I too have dark rings under my eyes, but only one excuse for them, not two.
Look forward to reading more.

Oh no i hate being sleep deprived – there is nothing worse. I too suffer from the verbal incontinence, i cannot string a sentence together either and i trail of on a tangent mid conversation. That's baby brain for you!

Thanks for the comments :) .

Josie – Good to know I am not alone….is that cruel? ;)

Lulu – Nice to meet you :)

WOB – Someone told me that baby brain nevr improves……I'm dooooooomed!

Oddly after I wrote that post I went upstairs at 7pm for a'lie down' as was shaking with tiredness and didn't wake 'til 11pm!!! That's more sleep than I get at night. Seems extreme exhaustion leads to a collapsed state of sleep. Better than none.

:)
