Spread the word!

by Ellie on November 22, 2009

I cannot imagine my life without Social Media. It gives me the chance to connect with friends, read about anything and everything you could possibly imagine and waffle endlessly to myself on my own blog.

In the grander scheme of things it can have a massive positive effect. By ’spreading the word’ a single blog post or tweet can become viral and elicit support for a good cause from far and wide.

I’d like to ask you to read about, tweet, Facebook, post and blog about the following three great causes/posts that really deserve to be read and supported:

This evening I read this tweet from Kat at ‘Housewife Confidential’:

Fantastic response from bloggers to the Charity Auction for Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund – can you help?

The Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund
has been set up to provide financial help to the victims of the recent flooding. Homes are uninhabitable, belongings lost and ruined. This kind of damage happened in only a few hours but takes months if not years to repair.

British Mummy Bloggers are being asked to help raise money for the fund by contacting PR’s in the hope of securing items which can be donated to silent auctions beginning at Bambino Goodies on Saturday 28th November 2009.

If you are already a member of British Mummy Bloggers you can pledge your support here. If you’re not you can read about it on Kat’s blog here and an updated post here.

Many of you will be aware of Dan and his blog ‘All that comes with it‘. Dan is a fervent supporter of The Joseph Salmon Trust which provides much needed financial assistance for bereaved parents.

Dan and a plethora of other bloggers are undertaking

Hadrian’s Walk in July 2010 in a bid to raise an injection of much needed funds.

Dan has brought to my attention the fact that The Joseph Salmon Trust are currently petitioning 10 Downing Street on the little known issue of tax on memorials and headstones.

During times of grief the burden is enough and to essentially tax grief itself is quite simply (in my opinion) despicable.

Please, please sign The Petition to 10 Downing Street to abolish this tax. It only takes a couple of minutes at most, but could help bring an end to this needless tax on mourning.

Linda Jones has put together a brilliant post on her blog ‘You’ve got your hands full‘ entitled ‘Children and Bereavement:Families share experience and advice‘.

It’s not a subject that’s easy to talk about but it’s a fact that bereavement affects us all at some point in our lives. Linda’s post shares the stories and experiences of various bloggers (including myself).

It may not be the most comfortable of reads but many of the posts Linda highlights, and the comments they received just go to prove that these feelings, that are often locked away inside, need to be spoken about. Posts that we write in our darkest hours can help others in theirs.

Linda has also pulled together some very useful links to other websites and pages that provide information and support for children, parents and families in times of grief.

So there you have them. Read the posts then go spread the word!

What are you waiting for?

Hiya – thank you so much for your link and kind words. I think my post shows how powerful blogs can be – purely because there is nothing more powerful than real people's stories and iy brings these together, so massive thanks to you for your beautifully written posts and for reaching out. Now I'm back to the ironing. x
