If there’s one thing that is guaranteed to put a smile on my son’s face it’s Thomas and Friends. He eats, sleeps, and breathes Thomas and has even been known to talk about him in his sleep! Oh and who could forget my infamous Thomas 3rd Birthday cake. What do you mean you have no idea what I’m waffling on about?
I digress.
Where was I? Ah yes.
This year marks Thomas’s 65th Anniversary and we were more than delighted to receive a sneak preview DVD of the first 3 episodes of the brand new series of Thomas & Friends which introduces some new characters in celebration of this landmark event.
The new series has a brand new fresh and modern look and feel, and for the first time is produced in full CG animation with each engine now having it’s own character voice rather than that of the narrator. Don’t worry, the narrator is still there, just in a lesser capacity.
To say that my son loves Thomas’s makeover would be an understatement. We’ve watched all three episodes four times today! He’s even already quoting lines from the episodes!
If you have a Thomas fan in your household make sure you tune into the new series which premieres on Monday January 25th at 8:25am on Channel Five’s Milkshake and airs every weekday.
We’ll be recording it on the digibox. Just for emergencies, you know?

Ahhh what a lovely review
To be honest I'm really really disapointed that the makers of Thomas have decided to go this way. The show was unique before – and I loved marveling at the model making. Now it sounds like it's just going to go the way of all cartoons – cheap CGI.
Bah. where is the art?
Lax – Ta lovely x
Dan – I totally understand where you're coming from and was having a similar discussion with someone on Twitter. It is a shame in some ways that the old models have gone but I do think moving forward that kids these days expect more even though their parents appreciate 'the art'. I remember when Big E first watched Thomas and the theme tune had changed from the one I remembered, I've grown to love it in the end (especially since he sounds so cute singing it).
My little ones love Thomas. We've seen the talking Thomas before and it does not make any difference to how much they love him. We're ver excited for new episodes.
This is why we're blisters, we reviewed it in our house too! : D Four year old LOVES it and has watched it several times a day like Big E. Shame the sets and models have gone, but if the children like it that's all that matters.
I will have to make sure we catch this tomorrow. If nothing else, it is always a good way to make sure the children are ready to go with coats and schoolbags at the ready because they can't bear to miss it!
It'll be interesting to see if my eight year old, who still likes Thomas, minds the changes.
Skirts & Wellies – We love the new episodes we've seen, hope your little ones do too!
Emily O – Blisters to the end! I was quite impressed that it still looks like the old island etc even though it's CG animation. Not too OTT.
Ella – I hope they liked it!
