So, you want to be a stay at home mum but aren’t sure if your finances can take the strain?
I’ve recently found myself facing this very dilemma so when Becky Goddard-Hill sent me a copy of her book ‘How to Afford Time Off with Your Baby: 101 Ways to Ease the Financial Strain’ I was more than happy to read any advice she had to offer.
The book is set out in sections from pre-pregnancy financial planning and considerations right through to planning financially for baby number two. There are practical suggestions for cheap and free days out with your children, advice on making and sticking to a budget, plus tips and tricks on how you can cut your outgoings and earn an income from home.
The message of the book isn’t rocket science, but it’s all good solid common sense and practical advice packed into a handy manual that I have dipped in and out of as and when I’ve needed to.
One section inparticular I have found very useful is the ‘Resource Bank’. It’s packed with details of websites, books, and information on getting the support you need, making & saving money plus fun & educational resources.
Unfortunately for me, even with a lot of Becky’s advice already implemented, I still cannot afford my dream of being a stay at home mum. Even so, the advice in her book has jogged my memory and helped us to cut a few more corners and free up a little extra income.
Whether you’re pregnant, a new mum or just want to budget better for your family then this book is certainly a good one stop resource. It could make a great gift for a pregnant friend!
