Leapfrog ‘My Pal Violet’ – Review

by Ellie on May 9, 2010

As a parent, when it comes to choosing toys for my children I can be quite picky. They have to be from a brand that I trust or one that comes highly recommended by another parent.

So, when I was asked if I’d like to chose a Leapfrog toy for each of the children to test I was more than happy to oblige.

For Little E, I chose ‘My Pal Violet‘.

Suitable from 6 months to 36 months, ‘My Pal Violet’ is an interactive soft toy with a difference. Most similar toys on the market play music and help teach letters and numbers but ‘My Pal Violet’  has the additional benefit of personalisation. All you need to do is download ‘Leapfrog Connect’ and connect your ‘My Pal Violet to the computer with the USB cable provided.

Violet can be programmed to know your child’s favourite food, animal and colour. Plus instead of only playing a few songs on a loop you can chose up to five daytime songs and five lullabies from a list of over 30. There is also a personalised song which spells and sings your child’s name.

You can can update your choices as many times as you like! No more getting driven to distraction hearing the same songs and phrases over and over again.

‘My Pal Violet’ is lovely and soft to the touch. Each of her paws is neatly embroidered according to activity so pressing one will activate a game, a song, or a lullaby.

Little E will often fall asleep on the floor, face down, snuggling Violet, listening to the ’2 minutes of lullabies’. I’m certain as she grows, Little E will begin to appreciate the other features too.

Would I recommend ‘My Pal Violet’? Yes, it’s personalisation takes it to another level and will save many a parent’s sanity by allowing customisation instead of mind numbing repetition.

‘My Pal Violet’ is at an RRP of £19.99 from various retailers.

Watch out for our review of the Leapfrog ‘Tag Junior’, coming soon.

It looks like a lovely toy to own, and very colourful for any age child to appreciate, or indeed one with special needs.

Hi Sarah,

No it’s free to download. All you have to do is load the software onto your PC/Laptop. I had no problems at all with it.
