Sophie the Giraffe – Review

by Ellie on May 4, 2010

When the lovely people at Hello Baby offered to send me a ‘Sophie the Giraffe’ to review I jumped at the chance.

Little E is currently (and constantly) teething and anything, anything to help ease the pain is worth a try!

Sophie the Giraffe is older than you might expect. She’s been synonymous with teething in France since 1961 and will soon be celebrating her 50th birthday!

Despite her age, Sophie the Giraffe’s subtle appearance and soft muted colours have never dated. She looks as fresh and modern as she did back in the 60′s!

Traditionally manufactured by hand in France by Vulli, and made from soft,  flexible, natural rubber and non-toxic paint, Sophie the Giraffe is suitable from newborn+, and is safe for even the tiniest of hands.

Little E is a newly converted fan of Sophie the Giraffe. The toy is certainly perfect for her at 11 months, and she is able to easily twist, chew, and squeak Sophie the Giraffe with ease.

I’m certain Sophie will be a favourite toy round these parts for a while yet!

Oh I had one of those! And so did my brother. I got my mum to send me one for Marie when she was a baby, and one for Noelie too. I don’t know of one french person who didn’t have one. It is THE french baby toy. Love it!

My little E has had a Sophie since he was born. He’s almost two and still loves it. We can’t get enough of Sophie around here. Easy to hold, gentle to chew, lots of nubby bits and she’s sooooo cute.

Hello,
My sister has lived in France for the last 19 years and her boys are 13 & 10. Both had Sophies. When my little girl was born, she sent us one and since then, I have been importing and exporting them to all parts of England and the USA. I usually put an order of 4 in for her to bring over when she visits as they are a fraction of the price in France.
An absolutely brilliant toy.

Both my daughters had a Sophie from their French grandmother. I must confess my eldest got slightly freaked out by it, but the youngest adored her.

I got one of these for my Baby. She loves it, but the toddler nicks it off her quite a bit. I love that Sophie has such a lovely history. Great review of a lovely toy x

Oh, this reminds me of my giraffe from childhood. Kind of.

Mine is a stuffed toy and much bigger. My sister had put it on lay-by for me. When she died (I was 6mths, she was 17 at the time), my Mum found the receipt for it and went in to the shop and asked that she have the exact, same giraffe my sister had chosen. It sat in my 8yo’s room when he was born, then the 6yo’s and now rests in the 3yo’s room. He’s looking a little worn, but I’ll never give him up.

If my kids were younger, I’d definitely buy one of these. Lovely.

Hello, we LOVE Sophie the Giraffe in our house, so much so that we have a whole collection! ooh, and it’s her 49th birthday this month too (phew, she’s older than me . . . )

She may even be appearing in the next Sex in the City film (was spotted backstage, they like the ‘older’ woman) tee hee.

Lovely indeed.
